learn from the best

Another one’s experience is another person’s learning, don’t you think ?

This is a learning from Brian Chesky, CEO of AirBnB. Chesky the brilliant mind that founds the wonder’s sharing assets into disruptive business that inspire many other digital businesses until now. A good example about never stop to learn no matter how far you have come. There is always room to grow and learning is a never ending process.

Chesky’s seeks mentorships and guidance through others people experience. Some he would come to them directly. And some he might learn through doing research on his own.

Here are some of his learnings from inspiring people that suits him in the matter of his own.

We learn from the best, right?

multigenerational workforce

How to master multigenerational workforce, by MAZLO.

If we follow this right, we might have a chance in working together in harmony and definite productivity.

The big question is, how can multigenerational workforce work together ?

I am sure with all strength from each generation’s hence uniqueness, greatness is inevitable. If ever we understand each other better.

Imagine that.

Re-invent yourself anytime

Read this. Remember this. Recite this. And make this as the perfect example for those who thinks it’s too late to change or make something new.

When harry met Sally, Sleepless in Seattle, You’ve got mail and lastly, Julie and Julia are Nora Ephron’s movies.

Nancy Meyers’ movies are Parent Trap, Something’s Gotta Give, It’s complicated, and The Intern.

As for Aline Brosh McKenna is known for writing The Devil Wears Prada, 27 Dresses, and for co-creating The CW’s Crazy Ex-Girlfriend TV Show.

These are all hits! All movies remain classics and are loved til now.

They all were in their late 40ies and early fifties and had passed over 20 years building their career before changing paths and succeeding.

Grace Coddington after 30 years’ fashion career in vogue, as she claims that she is a shy person who really doesn’t like to talk in public embark on a new career at the age of 77.  Grace now is the lead host of Face to Grace, a video show series that interviews artists and professionals in fashion.

As far as we can see from these experiences there are no limits. You need to keep moving and stick to what you love. You have some choices. Either you learn and adapt your output to the new medium that you are most comfortable with or embrace what lies ahead.

Here’s a video of Jennifer Lopez’s guide to reinventing yourself.

Her everyday mantra is, “I’m youthful and timeless at every age. I am ever-evolving and life is full of joy and adventure.”

I think we all should start making our own mantra. Don’t you think?

Self care, what is it ?

Now you get the picture ?

To put it in perspective, here’s what i learn where to start.

Start from self awareness, knowing what you want by starting to eliminating the things you don’t like. People you can avoid, activities, foods, take it out. And then you will get to find out what you like that you wan to keep. Keep doing it or meeting them. Getting to know yourself is the 1st step in self care.

When you realised who you are it is much easier to accept who you are. I know from experience it is a work in process. As long as you’re alive you will get to find new things about yourself. That is call learning. Everyday you learn. For the rest of your life. Be aware of that, be present, because you will get lost and mixed up with the hustle and bustle of your everyday life. Learn to stop and take it all in. Edit your life each time you can. And then you can move on.

When you are able to do the first steps of self awareness, self acceptance and be present, you can start to open yourself and seek help. Ask support from people surrounding you. People you like and trust. People who you can rely and know they are in good shape. Supporting system is the next step to prepare you as you realised life is one ball of life cycles. All connected with each other like one crazy electric system. When one cycle of system is down, other system will feel the impact. That is why being kind to one another is the solution for the whole world. But kindness starts from being kind to yourself. And then you can have the courage to share kindness to others.

By getting support and seeking support you allow yourself to attend self comfort. It is ok, it is needed. Every human being is needed for comfort. It is not a sin, it is not shameful. It is part of being human. Because at the end of every day, you can take a ease and rest. By doing so, you will learn to spend time, and energy wisely. Allocating, spending, choosing, time that matters for you as you understand yourself more. Being just not being. Be-ing your true in a whole self. That is the goal each time. Choose the things that makes you happy. And wipe everything else. HAH !

That is why  to be able to have a choice in any matter is important to get the self care you need. be kind to yourself. As it will open your mind gently to more curiosity in life you can to seek your craft, your passions, your destiny.  By being kind to yourself you can the strength to give kindness to others. And by being kind to yourself you will be able to be patience for any process of life takes you. Attention or attentive to yourself and others. Drive from patience that you can do after all the early steps before.

Flows like fluid as you find yourself to adjust the environment with what you have. The ability to think what you can do as part of a bigger life cycle. You will understand how to be mind full and gentle with yourself. As it starts only and only from yourself. And nobody else. And then you can allow yourself to be open and start being a part of a community. A part of a family that you like and would want to grow with them. You are ok with them as you accept yourself first being who you are and therefore accept them.

As it is after all a work in progress. The process is always a work in progress. Nobody in this world stops learning about themselves and others. You only stop when you die. And that is why whatever goal you wan to reach it is always the journey that counts. Focus on that journey. Focus on each process. One step at a time. Know your pace. Being your true being.

Start prioritising. Choosing what you like and what you don’t like. Choosing which way to go. Choosing which road you want to lead. Choosing what is important. Choosing what is good for you first. Choosing your pace, choosing your way. Prioritising your life being.  Make your self worth first.

You come to realised that slowing down is part of the routine. Part of the combination of it all.  And then you can allow yourself you learn more, exploration to do more, have the strength to want more and get the pleasures of life as much as possible, as comfortably as possible. Pleasurable for your own self.

So am i right ? Did i get it right ? I’m no expert and I’m still learning as I go.

But, I am hopeful. I’m hopeful by seeking joy each day, every day.

No shit no more.

I don’t take shit anymore.

I have high anxiety especially when I know that I’m being treated unfairly or someone is just saying bull-shit. I just can’t take it anymore.

I just don’t want to waste energy to deal with people who do that.

The only thing I try to do lately is to avoid conflict just by backing away and ask for help.

If I cannot resolve or with that person could not meet eye to eye, then I firmly asked to decline from the situation.

Rather than make situations become ugly (which might come often before) I now walk from the things I do not like. Learning to walk away from things or people that make me unhappy.

Self-love first before anything else.

As a partner consultant, I love to share, give advise, sometimes have the opportunity to teach on branding and social media. Consequently, it is crucial for me, to be consistent about what I say and what I do.

In a world full of noise I found a way to share my story without any interruption, being my own narrator, editor and moderator on my own platform, my blog and social media. It is who I am, or you can call it my product. In the future, as brand transcends into many possible directions who knows what it might become.

It is never about how many likes or quantity followers I get. But the type of content I put on my channels or the quality of content that represent me as a personality. How I interact to those who wants to engage with me and vice versa. As I believe those channels could lead to networks or opportunities but most importantly, trust and credibility.

So I am going to continue sharing my point of views and experiences in all my projects. My aim for higher purpose is searching new opportunities and projects as it becomes my platform and a doorway to grow. Ambitious in doing good, addicted in bettering myself and be more knowledgable. I consider myself a work in progress in search of meaningful work, work that matters and work that allows me to make an impact. To be a service to the world. To express in a form of compassion.

Through this combination of story and missions, creating projects that build me as a whole hence reflecting my future-self. By doing that, I call it the Tyas Branding Project. Stay tune.

eCommerce Facts

#TyasEcommerceProject #5

Facts on eCommerce.

The evolution of business on the internet has grown so much including e-commerce.  Each country in South East Asia also has its own way entering the market based on different needs and focus.

Not long ago I met with Angga, another of my former member Digital and Social Media Team when at PSF. Angga is now the Editorial Content Team Lead for iPrice Indonesian market. iPrice is an Online Shopping Search Engine that is the affiliate platform of choice for more than 1000 eCommerce merchants across South East Asia. It is based in Kuala Lumpur, Malaysia and currently serving in 7 market languages. Isn’t that just grand !

Through Angga, some insights shared of different strategies not only for business model but also characters and behaviors in each country are also different. For example, online users in Singapore and Malaysia does not engage through social media the same level like Indonesian people do. And how they strategies on counterfeits products is quite interesting.

iPrice as a technology based company also provide real data insights which I would say quite refreshing.

iprice insights state of ecommerce 2017

You can also get the iPrice’s State of e-Commerce in South East Asia 2017 here. Data from traffic, conversion rate, basket size for each country, COD payments, Mobile Revolution, Time of Purchase and map of e-Commerce on each country based on business models, store types and state of origin are available on their site. For example, Indonesia map on e-Commerce you can review here.

I think eCommerce will continue to excites the business ventures as stated through an article by  DailySocial that huge investments divided between TenCent and Alibaba will make quite an impact on SEA eCommerce Landscape in 2018.

  1. Each local companies on each country will choose a side
  2. Amazon will try to do acquisition for faster penetration in this market
  3. Offline becomes a new online: pure ecommerce players will launch physical stores to offset high online consumer acquisition costs, improve last-mile fulfillment, and accelerate growth
  4. E-Commerce start-ups will start ICO to fight for its existence
  5. 2018 will be the latest wave of ecommerce consolidation as local players adjust to the New World Rules
  6. Go-Pay will venture out of Indonesia via Sea, Traveloka, and JD to become the WeChat Pay version of Southeast Asia
  7. A new mobile-based fashion and beauty marketplace will fill the void left by Zalora
  8. Marketplace will “mature” and rid itself of “grey market” to serve luxury brands and blue chips
  9. Marketplace and e-tailers will introduce private labels and alienate brands
  10. B2B e-commerce will disrupt offline distributors, blurring the line between online and offline distribution

But that is all business.

All in all, what we need to understand is how to get the best online shopping experience.

The main traits on behavior and characteristic of Indonesian users on social media or the internet is how we like to come together. As a family or grow like a family we always find ourselves on regularly meet ups, liking to be a part of a family that has a purpose, and never liked being alone as an individual. Indonesian people will always put forward togetherness beyond anything else.

So I would like to close this story and simplify the facts.

Fact 1. Basic understanding of internet. Connecting through communication.

Fact 2. Basic management on the internet is using communication with influence. The way to influence better communication is similar like how we manage a community. Community management first, before anything else.

Fact 3. Experience is everything.

Thank you for reading.

See you on my next story.
