To me, it is quite the same.
For those who experience both would agree that it can mutually support each other.
Mutually support to established your career.
For example,

It’s still work if the things you do gives benefits for some one else. Right ?

What does that makes my career.
Some would say, you are not focus, how can your career take off when you keep on changing lanes all the time.
Well, on the contrary, each industry or each skill I have learn eventually serves each other.
Administration management serves my discipline in understanding format, guidelines, based learning of processes and layers of managing a project.
Advertisings serves me knowledge about branding, the process of marketing, translation into communication and social media integration or any other channels.
Digital and social media serves me opportunity in eCommerce support my skill to connect with other business industry and such.
Strategically, any use of skill, knowledge and information will be as useful as new information and learnings.
