Social distancing life lessons

July 2, 2020November 19, 20214 Comments

Every now and then God and the Universe has the power to make change. The power is so forceful that no matter how hard we try there’s a greater power pushing towards the change.

Never in a million years I would imagine to experience a global pandemic in this life time. But here we are.

Yes, the global pandemic has taken a huge impact on social and economic really makes us to reboot our whole lives.

Today, it has been over 100 days social distancing by staying at home, working from home, helping our children continue schooling at home and also in Indonesia, praying at home.

After gone thru what we all had gone thru. I think I came to realise it was really for the better.

Had I known the things I know now, maybe I things would be different. At least that’s always our wish.

Digital transformation in the pandemic era

July 2, 2020November 18, 20201 Comment

Hi. How are you? How are you so far in this pandemic ?

I feel it is necessary to ask how everybody is doing, because this situation is hard. Everything is changing and changes are hard. It is hard because it is taken some getting use to.

One change we need to work on is digitalisation in our daily lives. We used to avoid to do things using digital tools or platforms but now, we no longer can. Whether you like it or not. All aspects of life today are required access through digital ways.

No cash, just online payment. Even to our friendly neighbourhood vegetable vendor, we call tukang sayur. Credit card payment now can no longer pay by signature but to use verification personal identification number.

In addition to that, staying at home involves disruptive way of working, continuing the school experience and here in Indonesia praying at home is tremendously significant as we enter the month Ramadhan and the holy day of Eid Mubarak as we usually come together with family and friends. We help our parents be more able in using digital platforms more than they were used to. To be fair the struggle is on both sides, us teaching them how to and them learning to do it and able to independently do it.

Lebaran Social Distancing

In the working sector, let’s look at how big tech companies works due to corona virus like google, facebook and twitter they plan to continue remote work at least 5 to 10 years onwards.

Somehow, I remember a discussion I had with my previous HR personal while working for an organisation 5 years ago. I predicted that how we work in the future would change. I imagine one person could have 2-3 jobs at once due to the value of expertise and conveniences.  It looks like my predictions could come true after all.

At that time, the HR manager said there’s no way, not in the organisation I work for, at that time, would ever comply with such ways. But in my head I said, there will be a time when no company can afford not to follow as the world it moving to that directions. It is possible. Working from home allow the possibility.

High technology is being commonly used and becoming self sufficient in our daily lives. The above video from The Economist actually confirmed my understanding of what I’ve observe before.

So what is this global pandemic actually advancing and preparing us for the future ?
